Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The way you “Google” something is about to fundamentally change. Google has officially rolled out its revolutionary AI-powered search experience in India, marking one of the biggest upgrades to its search engine in over a decade. This new feature, part of an experiment called the Search Generative Experience (SGE), aims to make searching faster, smarter, and more conversational.
So, what does this actually mean for you?
Instead of the familiar list of ten blue links, you’ll now often see a comprehensive, AI-generated summary—or “AI Snapshot”—right at the top of the page. This snapshot directly answers your query by pulling information from multiple web sources, complete with links for you to click and explore further.
The search bar is also becoming a conversation. After your initial query, you can ask follow-up questions in a natural, conversational way, and the AI will understand the context from your previous searches. For example, after searching for “best hill stations in North India,” you could simply ask, “Which ones are best for a family trip in June?”
Recognizing India’s diverse user base, Google has launched this experience in both English and Hindi. Users can easily switch between languages and even use voice commands to ask questions and receive AI-powered results in their preferred language.
For now, this new AI-powered search is an opt-in experiment available through Google Search Labs. To try it, users on the Google app or Chrome desktop can look for the “Labs” icon (a small flask) and enable the SGE feature. A toggle will then appear at the top of the search results, allowing you to switch between the new AI view and the classic web search.
This move signals a major shift in how we find information online, moving from a simple list of links to a more interactive and intelligent discovery process.
