New Delhi : US retail giant Walmart may also do business in India for its global operations. Walmart is working closely with suppliers in India to meet its target of sourcing goods worth $10 billion from India.

Walmart Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Doug McMillon said on Tuesday that Walmart has increased its purchases from India in the last few years and is excited about this progress. He said that in the last few years you can see how the situation is changing and it is really becoming broader and more interesting.

The Bentonville-headquartered retail giant has set a target of importing products worth US$10 billion from India by 2027 with an aim to boost exports in apparel, food, toys and other categories. He said that initially, we were taking limited categories of products from here, but now we are keen to expand it.

The CEO has said that there has been a lot of growth in this and now our target is to take it to US$ 10 billion every year, which is really a big figure and together with the supplier community, we are working to achieve this.

Doug McMillon is on a two-day visit to India. Here he mentioned Walmart’s growth story in India which includes exports, digital innovation, building an inclusive supply chain and empowering communities. Apart from this, he also interacted with some vendors who have been trained under the suppliers development program Walmart Growth.

Regarding its e-commerce unit Flipkart and digital payment solution PhonePe, CEO McMillon said that what our team has done over the years to grow these businesses is inspiring. Walmart said last year that it has imported goods worth more than $30 billion from the Indian market for its global operations in the last 20 years. Walmart has been in India for more than two decades.
