26 June 2025: The southwest monsoon has now knocked in different parts of the country. This has ended the heat wave in North India and people got relief from the scorching heat, but at the same time the effect of humidity and sticky heat is also being felt. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of light to moderate rain, strong winds, lightning and hailstorms in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana-Punjab and Delhi-NCR in the next 24 hours. It has been advised to stay in safe places. Heavy rain alert in western, central and hilly areas

Skymet report states that heavy rains are expected in Guwahati, Goa, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the coming days. There is an increased risk of landslides in hilly areas, due to which travel restrictions have been advised. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also predicted heavy rains in South India – Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana – and Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim and West Bengal in the Northeast. This continuous rain will cause the water level in the rivers to rise, while flood situation may arise in low-lying areas.

Rain and thunder are possible in Uttar Pradesh in the next 36 hours

The heat has decreased due to the activity of monsoon in Uttar Pradesh. Heavy rain with thunder and lightning is expected within the next 36 hours. There is a warning of heavy rain in eastern UP – Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Sitapur, Pratapgarh, Bundelkhand – on 25, 27 and 28 June. This will reduce the heat and there will be a feeling of the onset of monsoon.

Possibility of strong winds and lightning

Delhi-NCR has been cloudy for the past few days and light rain has increased the humidity. Although thunderstorms are expected on 25–26 June, at present, there is no significant impact. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains, strong winds (30–40 km/h) and lightning from 25 June to 1 July. There is a possibility of continuous rain between 27–30 June. This will provide relief from the heat and the air quality will also improve.

Monsoon division amid crisis in Bihar

Monsoon activity has covered most of the districts of Bihar, and it has been raining for several days. The State Meteorological Center has issued an alert of rain with strong winds and thunderstorms for the next six days. There is a possibility of lightning, especially for West Champaran and Kishanganj districts. People have been asked to remain alert.

Monsoon rains are continuing in Rajasthan

Monsoon has become quite active in Rajasthan-190 mm of rain was recorded in the last 24 hours. Rains are continuing in Ganganagar despite the temperature being 42.3°C. IMD has warned of heavy rains in eastern Rajasthan (Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Ajmer) for the next one week. Temperatures are expected to drop.

Possibility of floods and landslides in South India

There is a threat of floods and landslides due to torrential rains in Kerala. There is news of overflowing of Choorlamala River, Mananthavady and Panamaram. Orange alert has been issued for 11 districts including Wayanad. Heavy rains and 50 km/hr winds are also expected in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

High tide alert in coastal areas of Maharashtra

Monsoon activities are increasing in intensity in Maharashtra. Strong winds and high tide are expected in Mumbai. BMC has warned that sea waves may rise up to 4.6 metres on June 26. It has been advised to avoid going to the coasts and nearby areas.

Danger of landslides in Himalayan states

The water level of the Ganga river has risen due to heavy rains in Uttarakhand. River rafting has been stopped in Rishikesh. Landslide warning has been issued in areas like Dehradun, Haldwani, Nainital and Almora. The pilgrimage was affected for 4 hours due to falling of boulders in Kedarnath. The weather is also active and erratic in Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir.

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert to be cautious in view of the monsoon activity across the country. In all the states, advice has been given to be cautious in travel and outdoor activities as per the strong winds, rain and state/region-specific conditions.
