A video of an auto-rickshaw driver breaking down in tears after being fined by traffic police for parking in a no-parking zone has gone viral across social media, drawing widespread sympathy from the public.

The emotional auto driver, who reportedly received his permit in 2012, claimed he had never been fined before.

Speaking through tears, he said, “They told me to park only in designated parking spaces, but there was no space available. That’s why I stopped on the roadside. I pleaded with the officer, but he didn’t listen. I earned just ₹200 since morning. I haven’t stolen or cheated anyone. I work hard with honesty. But now I feel like I’m not even being allowed to earn a living.”

In the video, the driver further urged the authorities to target actual offenders, not poor daily-wage workers like himself.

“Auto drivers work very hard. The police should collect fines from those who cheat or break laws seriously — not from hardworking drivers like us,” he appealed.

The incident has sparked a debate on the treatment of small-scale workers by law enforcement, with many calling for more empathetic and practical enforcement of traffic rules, especially in congested urban areas where formal parking spaces are inadequate.
