Congress Responds to RSS's Call for Preamble Review

Following a statement by Dattatreya Hosabale, the General Secretary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), regarding the review of the terms 'socialist' and 'secular' in the Constitution's preamble, the Congress party accused the RSS and BJP of being 'anti-constitutional' on Thursday.

Hosabale has urged for a reassessment of these terms within the Constitution's preamble.

The Congress party asserted that it will not allow the BJP-RSS conspiracy to succeed and will oppose any such initiatives. In a post on 'X', they stated, 'The RSS-BJP ideology is against the Constitution. Now, the General Secretary of the RSS, Dattatreya Hosabale, has demanded changes to the Constitution's preamble.'

The opposition party claimed that Hosabale aims to remove the words 'socialist' and 'secular' from the preamble, labeling this as a conspiracy to undermine the Constitution crafted by Baba Saheb Ambedkar, which the RSS and BJP have been plotting for a long time.

The opposition further noted that when the Constitution was first implemented, the RSS opposed it and even burned copies of it. Congress remarked, 'During the Lok Sabha elections, BJP leaders openly stated that they needed over 400 seats in Parliament to change the Constitution. Now, they are once again engaged in their conspiracies, but Congress will not allow their plans to succeed at any cost.'

In his address at an event commemorating the Emergency, Hosabale reiterated the call for reviewing the terms 'socialist' and 'secular', stating that these were added during the Emergency and were never part of the Constitution drafted by B.R. Ambedkar.

He mentioned that during the Emergency, fundamental rights were suspended, Parliament was non-functional, and the judiciary was incapacitated, which led to the inclusion of these terms. Hosabale added that while discussions on this issue occurred later, no attempts were made to remove these terms from the preamble, suggesting that it should be reconsidered whether they should remain.
