New Delhi: WhatsApp is coming with a highly awaited feature where users can enable or disable the message notifications of a whole chat list at once. The update is currently available in the latest beta version of Android (2.25.19.17) and is expected to help in the reduction of clutter in notifications and provide greater flexibility to grouped conversations. This makes it possible to set notifications in all chats in a particular list with a few taps on a screen instead of doing it separately on each chat.

The new feature is already noticed by some of the beta testers, and it is seen in the menu of list options. It allows one to silence or edit notifications in a whole list, such as work, school or social groups, which makes it perfect to handle several conversations at one time. The action simplifies the process of using the app, particularly for users who divide their chats into categories according to various aspects of life.

After opening the list menu, users will see a new button that allows them to manage the notifications in a particular set of chats. The feature also has been implemented in the main app settings, providing another option to deal with the chat list notifications. Be it the muting of work messages during weekends or silencing school group messages during off-time, the user can now customise his or her experience with ease.

Mentions still get through

Notably, muting a chat list will not affect the manner in which messages are sent or received. People will not be informed that they have been muted, and people will still receive notifications when they have been mentioned in group chats. This makes sure that when a list is silenced, not all the important updates will be missed.

The functionality is already deployed to a few beta testers through Google Play Store and will also be deployed to additional users over the next few weeks. It is the latest in WhatsApp to provide more intelligent messaging services that are more user-friendly.
