New Delhi: Tension has increased again in relations between India and Bangladesh. The incident of sabotage in Durga temple in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, came to light on the previous day. India has taken a dig at the interim government of Bangladesh. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has blamed the Mohammad Yunus government for this. Also expressed concern about the safety of minority Hindus.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that it is the responsibility of the interim government in Bangladesh to ensure the safety of the Hindu community and their religious places. He also clarified that India is fully prepared to communicate with Bangladesh in peaceful and creative environment on all issues.
Bangladesh government responsible
Jaiswal blamed the Bangladesh government for the demolition of the temple and said that we know that the extremists were demanding to demolish the Durga temple located in the Khil farm area of Dhaka. But instead of providing security to the temple, the interim government has tried to suppress the matter as an issue of illegal land use. He said that India is very disappointed that such incidents are happening continuously in Bangladesh.
Negotiations on Ganga water treaty begins
Jaiswal said that the Ganga Water Treaty of 1996 is about to end next year, and the talks between the two countries to renew it are going to start soon. He said that the government is fully prepared to negotiate with Dhaka on all issues, so that it can be discussed in the interests of both countries in a beneficial and cordial environment.

The Ganga Water Treaty was signed between India and Bangladesh in 1996. The then Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and the then Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina were signed. Under the treaty, the minimum flow of water was ensured to Bangladesh in the dry season. This treaty can be renewed after 30 years on the basis of mutual consent, so its renewal is proposed in 2026.
