GB News viewers were left questioning the programme after tuning into the breakfast show to see Ellie Costello present and host the morning panel completely on her own. Although she isn't an unfamiliar face on the channel, Ellie usually fronts the programme with Eamonn Holmes from Monday to Wednesday and then with Stephen Dixon from Thursday to Friday.

However, on Friday (June 27), the 31-year-old returned to screens completely solo, leaving viewers completely confused. No explanation was given about Stephen's absence, and just moments before her co-host finally appeared, many declared they were switching off and tuning into a rival news channel. One fan asked, "Where is Stephen? This is quite painful to watch," as a second fumed: "Going to talk, Mike Graham. Much more common sense on there."

Other viewers questioned, "Why is Ellie on her own? Have they said anything?" Another echoed: "Morning, everyone, just tuned in. Do we know where Stephen is?"

A concerned fan remarked: "Is Stephen's alarm not working today? Hope he's okay GBN."

Comparing the previous instances, a viewer penned: "Last time when Ellie hosted solo, she was good. This morning, she is out of her depth."

"Ellie was good hosting solo last time when Stephen came in late, this time around very lacklustre and looks out of her depth," one agreed.

Addressing Stephen's eventual arrival, a relieved fan shared: "When I switched GB News around 06.20 this morning, I noticed only lovely Ellie holding the Fort. Following my morning run and visit to gym and return it was good to see Stephen back with Ellie.Hope all ok, Steve." (sic)

Although Stephen's late arrival remained unexplained, earlier this year, he was forced to step back from his presenting role on GB News due to ill-health.

At the time, he told took to X, formerly known as Twitter and confirmed: "Won't be in on Thursday, not very well. Hopefully back in on Friday," alongside two crossed fingers emojis.

While fans shared their well wishes, Stephen's Thursday slot was replaced by political editor, Christopher Hope.

The broadcaster was alsomissing from screens last month, forcing Ellie to present on her own for a short while.

During the live programme, she informed viewers that the show would temporarily "look a bit different today," after he slept through his alarm but was on his way into the studio, adding that it "happens to all of us."
