New Delhi: While India is the host country for the Asia Cup 2025, one among United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Sri Lanka was to be decided as the co-host for the event. This happened after India and Pakistan agreed that they will only play against each other at neutral venue and not at each other’s den.
Now, it is being learnt that UAE has been shortlisted as the co-host for the Asia Cup 2025 along with India and the marquee event, which features the other Asian teams as well apart from India and Pakistan being the main ones, would be held from September 2 to September 18.
It’s worth noticing that despite Pakistan being the host for the last edition of the Champions Trophy, India’s matches were held in Dubai because of the agreement. In a similar fashion, Pakistan will not play their matches in India in the upcoming Champions Trophy but at a neutral venue which is most likely going to be UAE.
India’s participation unlikely
As per a report in InsideSport, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is awaiting a go ahead from the Indian government to play the tournament. India’s participation in the event came under a doubt after 26 people were brutally killed by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists in April at Jammu and Kashmir’s tourist destination Pahalgam.
However, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia denied rumours that India won’t feature in the 8-team tournament. He additionally said that there have been no discussions of boycotting the Asia Cup matches. India will play Pakistan in the ICC events only subject to clearance from the government.
Meanwhile, there was not a shout out from neither the BCCI or the PCB when the ICC placed India and Pakistan in the same group for the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025.
