Aamir Khan 's ' Sitaare Zameen Par ' released in cinemas on June 20. Now that it completes a week at the box office, it has crossed Rs 90 crore which is great for a film like this. Usually, blockbusters and those big, massy movies are expected to cross the Rs 100 crore mark on day 4 or day 5 itself. But 'Sitaare Zameen Par' clearly wasn't like Aamir's other movies - like 'Dhoom 3', or 'Ghajini' or 'Dangal'. This one was a word of mouth movie , expected to grow slowly.
The film has done really well by holding up all through the week after the first Saturday and Sunday. It made Rs 10.7 crore on opening day. It saw growth on Saturday and Sunday, making Rs 20.2 crore and 27.25 crore respectively. It made Rs 8.5 crore on Monday and the same number on Tuesday as well. On day 6, Wednesday, there was a slight drop and it minted Rs 7.25 crore. Thursday also it seems like the film may make similar to Wednesday numbers or slightly less than that. On Thursday, it made Rs 6.75 crore which is a drop from Wednesday. Thus, the week 1 collection of the movie stands at Rs 89.15 crore. However, on Friday, till afternoon, the film has collected Rs 96 lakhs. The total collection in India now stands at Rs 90.11 crore net, according to Sacnilk. It can be expected to see low numbers on Friday as compared to Thursday as there has been a drop with the release of Kajol starrer 'Maa'.
'Maa' also has a slow start on Day 1. But apart from that, we also have a big south release ' Kannapa ' which is giving a major competition to 'Maa' and 'Sitaare Zameen Par'.
