Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has come under fire for casting Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3. The film, which will not be released in India, is set to premiere overseas, including in Pakistan. The backlash stems from Aamir’s past social media posts, especially those seen as anti-India following the Pahalgam terror attack. Several film industry bodies have urged filmmakers and producers to drop Diljit from upcoming projects, including the high-profile Border 2.
Sources close to Border 2 revealed to TOI that Diljit has only shot a few scenes, and replacing him is still feasible. Reports suggest that Punjabi singer-actor Ammy Virk is being considered as his replacement. “The makers are exploring the possibility of recasting, and Ammy’s name has come up in discussions,” said a source. However, producer Nidhi Dutta has not commented, and representatives of both Diljit and Ammy have remained silent.

Contradicting these claims, Hindustan Times reported that there are no plans to remove Diljit from the project. A senior production insider confirmed, “Diljit’s casting was finalized months ago. Half the film is already complete, and replacing him now is not practical.”

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) sent a letter to lead actor Sunny Deol, urging him to reconsider his association with Diljit. They cited the emotional impact of the Pahalgam attack and Hania Aamir’s alleged anti-India stance as reasons to dissociate from the singer.

In his defense, Diljit told BBC Asian Network that Sardaar Ji 3 was filmed in February, well before the political tensions. “When we shot the film, everything was fine,” he said. “Now the producers are bearing losses and have chosen to release it abroad. I support that decision.”
Border 2 is currently being filmed in Pune.
