Overview of IMC Gaya Project
The Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Gaya is set to become Bihar's largest industrial township, part of the Amritsar Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC). This ambitious project will cover an area of 1,670 acres in the Dobhi block of Sherghati sub-division, with a total investment of ₹1,339 crore, which includes ₹462.14 crore allocated for land acquisition.
Upon completion, the Gaya industrial node is anticipated to draw significant manufacturing investments, generate extensive employment opportunities, and greatly enhance regional development.
Bihar's Chief Secretary, Amrit Lal Meena, has conducted a thorough review of the project and has instructed that an agency be selected by March 2026, as the state government has already secured the necessary land.
Meena emphasized that this will be the largest industrial township in Bihar.
The Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) tender for the township is expected to be issued in the first week of July 2025. In an EPC contract, a single contractor manages all project aspects, including design, procurement, and construction.
The tender is being prepared in collaboration with the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC).
Among the 11 industrial corridors being developed by the Central government, IMC Gaya is part of the AKIC initiative, which spans five states in partnership with the Central government under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme.
The IMC Gaya will focus on sectors such as agro and food processing, ready-made garments, and technical industries including auto components, steel products, aerospace and defense, building materials, furniture, handloom, and handicrafts.
The project aims to attract investments of ₹16,524 crore and create over 109,000 jobs upon its completion. It is designed with modern infrastructure and Plug-n-Play facilities to foster a market-driven and investment-friendly environment.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the project on August 28, 2024, and the Ministry of Environment and Forest and Climate Change granted environmental clearance on March 18, 2025.
A Special Purpose Vehicle, Bihar Integrated Manufacturing City Gaya Ltd (BIMCGL), was established on January 6, 2025, for this initiative.
In March 2025, the state government designated the area as an industrial zone and provided a stamp duty waiver.
On May 16, 2025, the state cabinet approved a new greenfield alignment of approximately 7 km to connect the site with the Golden Quadrilateral (NH-19, GT Road) at an estimated cost of ₹142 crore.
Additionally, the state government has implemented various policy reforms to enhance the ease of doing business.
Gaya, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a well-known destination for international tourism, and the development of IMC is expected to further boost the region's economic value.
The presence of professional and technical institutions, including IIM, engineering and medical colleges, universities, and ITIs, along with a skilled workforce, makes this location ideal for industrial enterprises.
