New Delhi: The INDIA bloc leaders on Friday held a joint press conference in Patna to oppose the Election Commission of India's special intensive revision of the electoral roll ahead of the assembly election in Bihar.
The leader of the opposition in Bihar assembly and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav questioned the intent of the ECI as well as the government over this revision in such a short time period. "Why does the Election Commission want to revise the electoral rolls of 80 million voters within just 25 days before the elections? This appears to be a conspiracy to remove the names of the poor, oppressed, backward, extremely backward, Dalits, tribals, and minorities from the voter list due to the impending defeat of the Nitish-BJP-NDA alliance," Tejashwi Yadav told media persons during the conference in Patna.
The former deputy CM of Bihar questioned why this revision was not done after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
"The voter list, which was valid for the 2024 elections, is now being discarded. If the government is honest, it should declare the 2024 Lok Sabha elections invalid. No political party was consulted about this sudden action. The INDIA alliance will jointly present its concerns to the Election Commission and demand an immediate halt to the revision process," he added.
Yadav stated that approximately 47.6 million people will have to prove their citizenship.
