The real reason for this is the plastic water tank placed on the roof, which becomes like a tandoor throughout the day by heat in the sun’s strong sunlight. The sun heat heats the outer surface of the tank and gradually the same heat reaches the water. But you can avoid this problem by adopting some easy remedies.
1. Protection of tank with white or silver cover
The most effective way to protect the tank from sunlight is to cover it with thermal insulating cover. The white or silver sheet reflects the sun’s rays and prevents the heat from entering the tank. These sheets are easily available in the market from ₹ 500 to ₹ 1500. If these are not found, then the old sheet or sack of the house can also be used by soaking it in water.
2. Do not place the tank directly on the roof
If the tank is placed directly on the roof, then the heat is transferred from below. To avoid this, place a wooden frame or thermocol sheet under the tank so that the gap between the tank and the roof remains. This small change keeps the water to a large extent cold.
3. Lay on the roof green matte or wet car
Laying green grass mats around the tank is a great solution to reduce the temperature of the roof. It keeps the roof cool and also reduces the reflected heat on the tank. If green mats are not available, wet cargo or sack is also effective in the same way.
4. Keep the tank in the shade or shed
If possible, keep the tank in a place where there is no direct sunlight – such as in the wall, under an iron roof or inside a permanent shed. This is a permanent solution and does not require repeated cool measures.
5. Insulation of pipe also
Along with cooling the tank, it is also important that water carrying pipes should also be safe from sunlight. The water from the pipe lying in the sun can become hot again. For this, wrap the insulation tape on the pipe or pass them from the shady part. If you want, you can also get reflective white paint on the tank so that the heat of the sun does not reach the tank.
