“Core of unified, cohesive society…” President Trump designates English as US’ official language

Washington DC (USA) March 02: In a historic move, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to make English the official US language. The White House statement said that it is "long past time" for English to be recognized as the official language. The US has never had an official language at the federal level but some US states designate it as their official language. The order lets government agencies and funded organizations choose whether to offer services in languages other than English. Notably, the order revoked a 1990s mandate by President Bill Clinton requiring federal agencies to assist non-English speakers. According to some advocacy groups, currently 32 US states have made English their official language
