At the Archery World Cup Stage 2 in Shanghai on Saturday, India put up a great show, winning three medals: gold in the men’s compound team competition, silver in the women’s team competition, and bronze in the mixed team event.

Abhishek Verma, Ojas Deotale, and Rishabh Yadav’s men’s team defeated Mexico 232-228 in the final, securing the gold with a calm and steady performance. They won a close semifinal against Denmark 232-231.

Receiving the first round bye, the men’s team, who led the qualifying leaderboard with 2134, defeated Great Britain 239-232 in the quarterfinals to start the competition.

A powerful Mexican team defeated the Indian three of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Madhura Dhamangaonkar, and Chikitha Taniparthi 221–234 in the women’s compound final, forcing them to settle for silver. The Indian ladies performed well throughout the competition and gained a podium place in spite of the lopsided outcome.

In a lineup that included world number one Ella Gibson, the women’s team advanced to the gold medal match by outshooting Great Britain 232-230 after defeating eighth-ranked Kazakhstan 232-229 in the quarterfinals. The team had also been given a bye in the first round after winning the qualification with 2114 points.

Abhishek Verma and Madhura Dhamangaonkar’s compound mixed team added to India’s medal collection by defeating Malaysia in a low-scoring third-place match to take bronze.

These outcomes demonstrate India’s increasing proficiency and depth in compound archery on the international scene. Given that compound archery will only be a mixed team event at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, India’s recent results are promising as they aim to win the sport’s first Olympic medal.
