Murder Investigation in Koraput District
In a shocking incident in Doraput village, located within the Baipariguda police jurisdiction of Koraput district, a 27-year-old pregnant woman was reportedly murdered by her husband's second wife amid ongoing family tensions. The victim, identified as Satyabati Barik, was discovered with significant head injuries.
Satyabati, who was five months along in her pregnancy and a mother of two, was allegedly killed during a domestic dispute. Her father, Jahan Harijan, lodged a complaint at the Baipariguda police station on Friday, suggesting foul play. Following this, authorities opened a case (102/25) and initiated an investigation. The main suspects, Baijayanti Barik, the accused woman, and her husband, Binod Kumar Barik, were taken into custody. The police also recovered the body and engaged scientific teams to assist in the inquiry.
A post-mortem examination is yet to be conducted. Reports indicate that Satyabati and Binod had been married for eight years. In response to the tragedy, relatives and local residents protested outside the Baipariguda police station, demanding justice and severe penalties for those responsible. They placed her body on National Highway 326, and the demonstration lasted several hours before police intervened to take the body.
