In a significant move reflecting rising national sentiment and geopolitical tensions, leading Indian travel companies have suspended all tour packages and bookings to Turkey and Azerbaijan. The decision comes in response to both nations voicing public support for Pakistan amid its escalating conflict with India, especially following India's counter-terror operation dubbed ‘Operation Sindoor’, which targeted militant infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Travel firms, including EaseMyTrip, Cox & Kings, and Travomint, announced the suspension, citing concerns over safety, diplomatic sensitivities, and alignment with national interests. The collective action marks a growing trend among Indian businesses to reassess foreign partnerships and destinations in light of their political positions and implications for Indian travellers.

Karan Agarwal, Director of Cox & Kings, said the company had paused all new offerings to Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan. "In light of recent developments, we have decided to pause all new travel offerings to Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Turkey. This decision is driven by our commitment to uphold principles that matter deeply to us and the people of our country," he noted.

Consumer Safety

Echoing similar concerns, Nishant Pitti, Founder and Chairman of EaseMyTrip, underscored that customer safety remains the company’s top priority. “Deeply concerned by the recent developments. At EaseMyTrip, the safety of travellers is our top priority. We advise all our customers to exercise utmost caution and stay updated on official travel advisories before planning trips to sensitive regions,” he stated.

Travomint also joined the growing list of firms distancing themselves from countries perceived as unsupportive of India. CEO Alok K Singh confirmed the suspension, citing the company's alignment with public sentiment. “Due to the escalating tensions with Pakistan and countries like Turkey and Azerbaijan supporting it, we at Travomint have taken a firm and responsible stand. We have decided to support the Indians' call for boycotting Turkey and Azerbaijan,” he said.

Backlash Against Turkey And Azerbaijan

The backlash against Turkey and Azerbaijan intensified after both countries issued statements condemning India’s military action. Azerbaijan's foreign ministry expressed concerns over potential civilian casualties and called for a peaceful resolution, while Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs labelled India’s strike as “provocative” and cautioned against the risk of a wider conflict. Compounding matters, Indian security analysts have flagged the use of Turkish-made Asisguard Songar drones by Pakistan, further straining bilateral relations.

The travel sector’s swift response underscores the intersection of foreign policy and commerce, with companies increasingly factoring geopolitical considerations into business decisions.
