India and Pakistan Hold High-Level Talks Following Fragile Ceasefire Agreement

India and Pakistan are set to hold top-level military discussions today as both countries attempt to stabilize a tense ceasefire agreement reached over the weekend. According to the Indian Army, the Line of Control and border areas remained relatively peaceful overnight, marking a rare moment of calm following days of heavy military exchanges. The ceasefire, agreed upon at 5 pm on Saturday, initially promised to halt all hostilities across land, sea, and air. However, the truce was short-lived, with Pakistan reportedly violating the agreement within hours, prompting India to issue a stern warning, declaring Pakistan had been officially ‘put on notice.’

In a significant escalation before the ceasefire, India conducted Operation Sindoor, launching 24 missile strikes in just 25 minutes on nine strategic locations within Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. These precision strikes, which reportedly killed around 100 terrorists, were in retaliation for the devastating April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, where 26 individuals, many of them tourists, lost their lives. The strikes targeted key terror hubs, including Murdike, widely known as the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba, and other infrastructure linked to the group accused of orchestrating the Pahalgam attack.

Today, at 2:30 pm, India’s Director General of Military Operations, Lieutenant General Rajeev Ghai, will meet with his Pakistani counterpart, Major General Kashif Chaudhry, to discuss the fragile ceasefire and the way forward. This comes alongside a scheduled media briefing by Lt Gen Ghai, where he is expected to present detailed insights on Operation Sindoor and its outcomes.

Adding to the developments, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level security meeting on Sunday, attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the three services. The meeting reviewed the ongoing situation along the borders, even as the night passed without fresh reports of ceasefire breaches.

Indian forces also released satellite imagery showing the extent of destruction inflicted upon Pakistani terror camps, airfields, and air defence installations. The ‘before and after’ visuals of key sites such as Muridke and Bahawalpur highlighted the precision and effectiveness of India’s retaliatory strikes, further asserting India’s stance that any future acts of terror originating from Pakistan would be met with decisive force. The Indian government confirmed that senior military officers from both nations engaged in dialogue just hours before the ceasefire announcement, reinforcing the urgency of diplomatic and military channels amid heightened tensions.
