
Virat Kohli, veteran batsman of Indian cricket, announced his retirement from Test cricket on 12 May 2025. Earlier, Rohit Sharma had also retired from Test cricket. Kohli scored 9,230 runs in 123 Tests, including 30 centuries, and captained in 68 Test matches. Under his captaincy, India won 40 Tests from 2014 to 2022. In his Instagram post, Kohli described Test cricket as an important part of his journey and life and said that he has completely dedicated this format.
BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) provides pension to former cricketers. The pension amount was increased in 2022. Players who have played more than 25 Test matches get a pension of ₹ 70,000 per month. Virat Kohli has represented India in 125 Tests, so he falls in this pension category. Earlier, former cricketers used to get pension ₹ 50,000 per month. The BCCI had announced an increase in the pension amount, in which the pension amount of ₹ 50,000 was increased to ₹ 70,000.

Virat Kohli’s total assets are more than ₹ 1,000 crore, and he is one of the largest taxpayers in the Indian sports world. In the 2023-24 financial year, he paid a tax of ₹ 66 crore, which is the biggest tax paid by any Indian player.
