In a bizarre case from Uttarakhand, a police inspector with a history of serial marriages has landed in legal trouble after allegedly preparing for a fourth marriage—despite already being married three times. The matter surfaced when his third wife filed a complaint and exposed the inspector’s actions, halting his plans for yet another wedding.

• The accused, Inspector Ashutosh Singh, currently posted in Pithoragarh, had earlier married Vaijayanti Chand in 2019 (his third marriage), claiming to be divorced.
• It later emerged that he was not legally separated from his second wife, Poonam Rani, with whom he also has a daughter. He was divorced only from his first wife.
• Despite this, Ashutosh had been actively sharing his biodata and photos for a potential fourth marriage.
• When Vaijayanti discovered his intentions and raised objections, she alleged domestic violence, financial abandonment, and dowry harassment.

• Vaijayanti filed a complaint, which led to a case being registered under multiple IPC sections including dowry harassment, fraud, and intimidation.
• She claims Ashutosh physically assaulted her, confiscated her documents and jewellery, and forced her to sign blank papers which were later misused to suggest they were in a live-in relationship—possibly to deny her legal marital rights.

• Meanwhile, Ashutosh’s mother, Shakuntala Devi, filed a counter-case alleging that Vaijayanti and her father threatened to shoot her and throw acid on her.
• The complaint also accuses them of abusing and intimidating her around Diwali last year.
• Police have registered cases on both sides, and investigations are underway.
