Defending PGA Championship champion Xander Schauffele has been given the honour of selecting the menu for the champions dinner at Quail Hollow. The 31-year-old Californian secured his first major championship victory last year by defeating Bryson DeChambeau at Valhalla and will be joined by past Wanamaker Trophy winners to celebrate his triumph.

Following his success in Kentucky, Schauffele went on to win The Open Championship at Royal Troon in Scotland, solidifying his reputation as one of his generation's top golfers. On Tuesday, he will commemorate a remarkable year in North Carolina alongside golfing greats such as Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka. The PGA of America has revealed that the five-star dinner will begin with a selection of appetisers including smoked goat cheese dates, pickled watermelon, clams casino shooters and steak and bleu cheese crostini.

For the main course, Schauffele has chosen a steak, following in the footsteps of Scottie Scheffler's Masters menu from the previous month. The world No.3 has served up a feast for the senses with his menu boasting dishes like wagyu New York strip paired with blackened jumbo shrimp and crowned with a bourbon bone marrow reduction.

Sweet tooths will be tempted by desserts infused with liquor - a banana split drizzled in rum sauce and a strawberry shortcake with Chambord syrup are on offer.

But it's not just about the palate. Schauffele, who is known to enjoy a fine cigar, is gifting his guests with a humidor packed with cigras. Schauffele celebrated his two major victories last year alongside his father, Stefan, with a Montecristo in hand.

Schauffele said about his menu selection: "I didn't go do anything unique. I'd say it was sort of middle of the road, a steak option, a fish option. I wanted everyone to be happy or to be able to eat whatever they'd like."

Regarding the cigars, he added: "I think the gift is pretty fitting for everyone. I think they'll enjoy it, and if they don't like it, they can re-gift it pretty easily. Pretty on brand, I guess, a humidor and some cigars."

Despite a challenging season marred by injuries, Schauffele is getting back on form and holds dear memories of Quail Hollow, where he has been the runner-up at the Wells Fargo Championship for two consecutive years.

Schauffele said: "I'm excited. I am excited for the next stretch. I have played well at Quail Hollow. I think it fits my eye, and for whatever reason, I've been up at the top of the leaderboard for last two years. So I don't see why this year should be an issue."
