A Unique Commitment to Life After Death
In a remarkable act of altruism, a couple from Jeypore in the Koraput district has made the decision to donate their bodies and organs to aid research at a local medical institution, opting out of conventional cremation practices to contribute to environmental preservation.
The couple, Gouri Prasad Pattnayak, aged 58, and his 40-year-old wife, Kavita Pattnayak, expressed that their actions stem from deep humanitarian principles and a mutual dedication to both society and the environment.
Gouri Prasad shared that his experience at a blood donation camp significantly shifted his outlook towards aiding others and protecting nature. He noted the pressing need for donated bodies at the local medical college, which hampers students' practical training.
He explained, "Cremation consumes a substantial amount of wood, which I wish to avoid to protect trees. Therefore, my wife and I resolved to donate our bodies and organs posthumously, fulfilling our shared aspirations."
In recognition of their socially and environmentally responsible choice, the couple received accolades from the Pratima Ambika Trust.
