Tensions flared in Santibasthawad village near Belagavi city after three religious texts were found burnt in a field, prompting community outrage and calls for swift justice. The incident came to light on Monday morning when worshippers arriving at a local place of worship noticed the sacred books missing. A search led to the disturbing discovery of the charred remains approximately 200 meters away in a nearby agricultural field.
Miscreants Used Unauthorised Entry To Access Texts?
Belagavi Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang confirmed that the books had reportedly been taken from the ground floor of an under-construction religious building where prayers are usually held. The unauthorised entry is believed to have occurred the previous night, as per reports.
A case has been registered at the Rural police station, and multiple teams are working to track down those responsible. Senior police officials said that although a CCTV camera was installed at the site, it had been removed for repairs just before the incident, complicating efforts to identify the culprits.
In response, a peace meeting was organised involving leaders from various communities, all of whom denounced the act and urged immediate action. Authorities reassured residents that a full investigation is underway and pledged to maintain peace and order in the region.
Police have appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with the investigation as they continue to gather evidence and monitor the situation closely."The CCTV camera installed on the building was removed coincidentally on the day of the incident for some repair work. An investigation into the incident is underway, and we will nab the culprits," he added, as per PTI.
