How To Apply For PAN Card 2.0 Online: Step-By-Step Process You Should Know
msn | May 15, 2025 9:57 AM CST

PAN 2.0 is the Income Tax Department’s modern upgrade to India’s traditional PAN system, designed to improve security and streamline the overall process. With the introduction of e-PANS featuring scannable QR codes, the new system enables faster authentication and helps prevent misuse or fraud. While the digital version of the e-PAN is free and sent instantly via email, those who prefer a physical copy can still get one by paying a small fee. It’s important to note that your existing PAN card remains valid, even if it doesn’t have a QR code; no mandatory updates are required. If you're looking to apply for a PAN 2.0 card or want to get your e-PAN quickly, here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you through the process.

Know Your PAN Issuing Agency

India has two authorised agencies for PAN-related services:

  • Protean (formerly NSDL e-Governance)
  • UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Ltd (UTIITSL)

To determine which agency issued your current PAN card, simply check the back side of the card. This will help you apply through the correct platform.

Step-By-Step Guide To Apply For PAN Card 2.0 (Via Protean)

  • Visit the official reprint portal at Protean PAN Reprint.
  • Enter your PAN, Aadhaar number (for individuals), date of birth, and agree to the declaration before clicking Submit.
  • Verify your masked PAN details, choose where to receive the OTP (mobile/email/both), and confirm the dispatch address.
  • Once you receive the OTP, enter and validate it within 10 minutes.
  • Proceed to the payment page, agree to the terms, and pay the Rs 50 reprint fee.
  • An acknowledgement receipt will be created following a successful payment. After 24 hours, you will need to download your e-PAN, so save it.
  • The reprinted PAN card will be sent to your registered postal address within 15–20 working days, and the digital e-PAN will be available sooner via email.

This updated process offers both convenience and enhanced security with the inclusion of a QR code, ensuring easier verification and usage across platforms.
