Another year of the Cannes Film Festival is here, and just like every year, this year also the film festival is welcoming art, glamour and union from different parts of the world. Giving a moment of limelight to fresh faces every year, this 78th edition is witnessing a fresh blend of talent, vogue and film-making brilliance. Amidst all the veterans and OG guest list, a new Indian face that has been grabbing all the eyeballs and causing a buzz is of the 17-year-old Nitanshi Goel.
The Laapata Ladies fame actress, Nitashi Goel is the youngest Indian actress to make her debut at the Cannes. Sharing scenes with superstars like Aishwarya Rai and Alia Bhatt, she has come up as new face to the red carpet. But besides her looks that win hearts, it is her statement that has taken everyone by the storm. Specifically her second appearance has been causing a stir because of its emotional and cultural significance.
Donning a dusky pink and white lehenga saree, Nitashi’s hair did all the talking. . She had custom pearl strings decorated with tiny framed photographs of Indian screen legends—Rekha, Madhubala, Meena Kumari, and Nargis. Designed by designer Be Abhika, the hairpiece wasn’t simply a decoration, but a moving tribute to the golden age of Indian cinema. Her debut red carpet appearance, a black and gold off-the-shoulder gown with elegant embroidery and tiered tulle, also turned heads for its clean beauty and youthful poise.
As soon as Nitashi’s pictures came out, social media was all lit up with reactions to her tribute. While many praised her for blending fashion with meaning, others appreciated her courage to make such a bold and emotional statement on an international platform. A Reddit user called it a “pretty unique way to pay tribute, homage done right” while another humorously questioned, “No Ananya and Shanaya?? The living legends…” emphasising how Nitanshi’s gesture set her apart from typical celebrity fanfare.
With her entrance, Nitanshi Goel didn’t simply stroll the red carpet—she brought the heritage of Indian cinema along. At just 17 years old, she was used to combining style and substance and made everyone remember her mission that good fashion can create the biggest noise. Her homage was not merely a gesture towards the past; it was a strong message for the future.
