Concerns Raised by Bangladesh

Bangladesh has expressed serious concerns to India regarding claims that individuals were forcibly sent across the border into its territory. The Bangladeshi High Commission in New Delhi stated on Friday that India did not adhere to proper protocols during these alleged deportations.

Allegations of Forced Deportations

This situation arose after Bangladeshi authorities reported that three Indian nationals were part of a group of 78 individuals allegedly pushed across a river into Bangladesh on May 8. Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, confirmed on May 10 that the state was actively 'pushing back' Rohingya refugees and other 'illegal infiltrators' into Bangladesh.

Verification Challenges

The High Commission noted the difficulty in verifying the identities of those deported without valid documentation. As of now, India's Ministry of External Affairs has not issued a statement regarding these claims.

Supreme Court Involvement

The Supreme Court has addressed a petition alleging that the Indian government forcibly deported 43 Rohingya refugees to Myanmar by pushing them into international waters. The court declined to issue an interim order to halt these deportations.

Court's Inquiry

The bench requested evidence to support the allegations, questioning the credibility of the petitioners' claims. Justice Surya Kant raised concerns about the supposed actions of taking individuals to the Andaman Sea and abandoning them in international waters.

UN Report Quoted

An advocate representing the petitioners cited a recent United Nations report claiming that refugees were 'cast into the sea from naval vessels.' The bench indicated it would review the report in a larger composition of judges.

Concerns Over IMF Funding

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh criticized the International Monetary Fund's financial assistance to Pakistan, labeling it as 'no less than terror funding.' He referred to a new $1 billion aid package approved for Pakistan on May 9.

Pakistan's Use of Funds

Singh expressed concerns that a significant portion of the IMF funds could be allocated to 'terror infrastructure' in Pakistan. He emphasized that India does not want its contributions to the IMF to support such activities.

Militants Handed Over to Myanmar

In a separate incident, the bodies of ten suspected militants, who were killed in a confrontation with Assam Rifles in Manipur, have been returned to Myanmar. These individuals were reportedly involved in cross-border insurgent activities.

Increased Surveillance

Army officials indicated that the situation along the India-Myanmar border is under heightened surveillance following these events.
