Real Madrid have nothing to play for in their final two matches of the season, but they will still be keen to pick up two wins in order to end Carlo Ancelotti’s second spell as manager on a high note. But their chances of success in this weekend’s fixture against Sevilla look to have been hindered in the build-up to kick-off at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan.
Injuries have plagued Real Madrid – and they are continuing
It has been a dismal campaign for Real Madrid, who have failed to win a major trophy. Their performances have not been good enough, but injuries have not helped – and they continue to be plagued by these.
Defence is where they are particularly affected, with Ancelotti already unable to call upon the likes of Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, Eder Militao, Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy for the final few weeks of the season. And for Sunday’s trip to Sevilla, they are also expected to be without Raul Asencio.
Raul Asencio set to join list of injured Real Madrid players
Asencio, who has been dealing with personal issues this week, is suffering with a muscle overload, as reported by Mark. He missed training on Friday, and as per the report, he is not expected to be included in the matchday squad to face Sevilla.
If he were to miss out, it would ensure that Jacobo Ramon, who impressed in midweek against Mallorca, continues in the starting line-up. And his partner should be Aurelien Tchouameni, who did not play on Wednesday as he was serving a one-match suspension.
Real Madrid will be keen to take zero risks with any of their important first team players, who will be in action this summer as the Club World Cup. As such, it makes complete sense for Asencio to miss out against Sevilla as he will need to be at 100% for the tournament in the United States.
