On the occasion of the Directorate General of Trade Remedies’ (DGTR) eighth foundation day, the Ministry of Commerce & Industry said that the platform, which will shortly go online, would provide improved transparency, efficiency, and accessibility for all parties.

The DGTR Director General praised the dedication and ceaseless work of the organization’s officers and employees in maintaining the integrity of India’s trade remedy ecosystem on this particular occasion.

India has started more than 1,200 trade remedies investigations since 1995. In order to provide prompt relief for impacted businesses, the DGTR has been instrumental in this process by carrying out investigations quickly, often finishing within a year.

Recent actions have shielded homegrown industries from unjustly priced imports and subsidized items, including solar energy and innovative materials like copper wire rods and solar cells.

In order to stabilize markets and maintain industrial competitiveness, the DGTR has also reacted to unexpected import spikes for goods like metallurgical coke and palm oil by imposing safeguard taxes and quantitative limitations. Its proactive strategy has been especially important for industrial industries that are susceptible to shifting dynamics in international commerce.

In 2019, the DGTR established a dedicated Helpdesk to serve micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) in order to better promote equal access. By resolving technological and data-related issues, this program has assisted smaller companies in filing applications and navigating the trade remedy procedures.

By posting trade alerts, handbooks, and frequently asked questions on its website, the DGTR further emphasizes openness and accessibility. With the help of these materials, local businesses, international exporters, and other interested parties may better understand procedural details and take an active role in protecting their trade interests.

In addition to the aforementioned, the DGTR has successfully opposed the implementation of trade remedy measures by foreign trade remedy agencies via its Trade Defence Wing. India’s interests in international commerce have been safeguarded as a consequence of these efforts, which have led to either lower taxes or total exemption from such restrictions on Indian goods.
