
Four persons died in a landslide at a stone quarry operated by Mega Blue Metal in Mallakottai, near S.S. Kottai in Sivaganga district on Tuesday morning. Another worker was severely injured and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Madurai.
Sivaganga District Superintendent of Police confirmed the fatalities and said rescue operations were carried out immediately after the incident. “So far, we have found four bodies, and one injured person has been admitted to a private hospital in Madurai for treatment,"
the SP told ANI.
The victims have been identified as Muruganandham, Arumugam, Ganesan, Andichamy, and Harshit, the latter being a native of Odisha, according to an official release from the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He announced ex-gratia payments of Rs. 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs. 1 lakh for the injured worker from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund (CMPRF).
The Chief Minister has also directed that the injured worker, identified as Michael, be given the best possible medical care at the private facility in Madurai where he is receiving treatment.
