IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians made major changes before playoffs, three new players join the team

IPL 2025 Playoffs: Mumbai Indians, involved in the playoff race of IPL 2025, have made three major changes in the status of qualification. In view of the national commitments of foreign players, the franchise has included three new players in the team instead of Will Jacks, Ryan Reclleton and Corbin Bosch. Mumbai Indians are currently fourth in the points table and they have two matches remaining the league stage. If the team reaches the playoffs, then these three players will return for national duty.

In such a situation, the franchise has signed England veteran batsman Joni Bairstow, fast bowler Richard Glison and Sri Lanka’s left -handed batsman Charith Asanka as a replacement. These three players will only join the team from the playoff stage.

IPL suspension and effect of changed dates

The IPL was suspended for a week due to increasing tension on the Indo-Pak border. After this, new dates of the league were announced, which are hitting some international series. The first qualifier will be played on 29 May and the final on 3 June. Due to this, many foreign players are returning to the national teams of their respective countries.

Official announcement of Mumbai Indians

A release issued by IPL said, "Mumbai Indians have signed Joni Bairstow, Richard Glison and Charith Asanka as a replacement in place of Will Jacks, Ryan Recellton and Corbin Bosch." The release further added that,"Replacement players will only be available from the playoff stage if Mumbai Indians qualify." 

Replacement players prices

Joni Bairstow has been included in the team for ₹ 5.25 crore.
Richard Glison has been signed at a reserve price of ₹ 1 crore.
Charith Asanka has got a place in the team for ₹ 75 lakh.

Temporary replacement rules

The IPL has made it clear that any players who have been temporarily connected to the team after the suspension of the league will not be retained for the 2026 season. IPL said in its statement, "Since some foreign players are not available, temporary replacement players have been allowed till the tournament ends." The statement further stated that, "The decision is based on the condition that temporary replacement players will not be retainable for the next season."

Mumbai Indians status in playoff race

So far, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab have qualified for the playoffs. Mumbai Indians (Mi) and Delhi Capitals (DC) are only two teams which are still in the playoff race. Both have two matches remaining. The Mi has 14 points and DC had a picture of the playoffs to a great extent when the two teams will face face to face on 13. May 21.

If Mumbai defeats Delhi, the team can make it to the top-4 directly. But if you get defeat, it will be necessary to win the last match and defeat Delhi so that the DC stops at 15 points.
