NEW YORK — May 20, 2025 — The New York Yankees opened their three-game set against the defending champion Texas Rangers with a statement win Tuesday night, riding a breakout pitching performance from rookie Will Warren and a clutch late homer from Aaron Judge to seal a 5-2 victory at Yankee Stadium.

Judge, who entered the night tied for the American League lead in home runs, launched his 16th homer of the season in the 8th inning — a short 326-foot blast down the right field line that just cleared the foul pole. Despite its distance, it provided big insurance runs in a tightly contested game.

Warren Delivers Career Night on the Mound

Warren (3-2) was brilliant on the hill, allowing just five hits and one walk over 5 2/3 inningswhile fanning a career-best 10 batters. It was a crucial performance for the Yankees’ rotation, which has battled injuries early in the season.

The rookie worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth inning, freezing Marcus seeds with a called third strike before Mark Head of Jr. entered in relief and struck out Pederson game to end the threat.

I RICE put the Yankees on the board in the second inning with a solo homer into the second deck in right field — his 10th of the year. He added a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to drive in Cody Bellingerwho extended his career-best 14-game hitting streak with a bloop single.

Tensions Rise, Rangers Rally Falls Short

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy was ejected in the sixth inning following a heated argument with plate umpire Carlos Torres during Judge’s at-bat. Texas couldn’t convert a late rally as Jonah home hit a two-run homer in the ninth to avoid a shutout, but Luke Weaver shut the door by retiring Josh Smith to secure his 6th save.

Before the game, the Rangers placed reliever Chris Martin on the injured list due to right shoulder fatigue and called up Cole Winn from Triple-A Round Rock.

Looking Ahead: deGrom Returns to New York
