Kamal Haasan's Strategic Move for 'Thug Life'

Renowned actor Kamal Haasan has opted to prolong the interval between the theatrical debut and the OTT release of his forthcoming film, 'Thug Life', deeming it a sensible decision.

In recent years, the time frame between a film's cinema release and its streaming availability has been shrinking, with many filmmakers now choosing a four-week window instead of the traditional eight-week gap.

During a promotional gathering for the movie directed by Mani Ratnam, Haasan expressed his aspiration that his decision would motivate others in the film industry to consider a similar strategy.

He stated, 'This isn't merely an experiment; it's a practical approach. I'm pleased that the OTT platform (Netflix) has agreed to this plan. It's a model that others might want to emulate.'

'This will contribute to a healthier industry, and we are proud to be the pioneers in seizing this opportunity,' Haasan added while speaking to the media.

The film marks a reunion between the Tamil superstar and director Ratnam after a 35-year hiatus, their last collaboration being the acclaimed 1987 film 'Nayakan'.

In 'Thug Life', Haasan portrays Rangaraya Sakthivel Nayakar, a character entangled in the complexities of crime and justice.

The promotional event also featured appearances by actors Silambarasan TR, Trisha, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, and music maestro A R Rahman.

The cast is further complemented by Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Nassar, Mahesh Manjrekar, Ali Fazal, Rohit Saraf, Rajshri Deshpande, and Sanya Malhotra.

Audiences can look forward to the film's global theatrical release on June 5.
