Nicole Kidman is set to reprise her mysterious role as Masha Dmitrichenko in Nine Perfect Strangers season two.

Following the tumultuous events of the first season, Masha Dmitrichenko (portrayed by Nicole Kidman) returns, ready to launch her next contentious retreat.

With a fresh group of nine participants, Masha is resolute in demonstrating the effectiveness of her methods.

With Kidman reprising her role in the and drama, viewers are eager to learn more about the acclaimed actress.

Family

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1967, Kidman relocated to Australia with her parents when she was just three years old, growing up in Sydney.

Her father was a psychologist, while her mother worked as a nursing instructor and was an active member of the Women's Electoral Lobby.

Kidman's sister, Antonia Kidman, has also carved out a successful career for herself as a journalist and television presenter.

Tom Cruise

Kidman met her first husband, renowned actor Tom Cruise, on the set of Days of Thunder in 1990.

In the film, he portrayed a race car driver, while she played his love interest, Dr Claire Lewicki.

Less than a year after finalising his divorce from Mimi Rogers, Cruise wed Kidman in an intimate ceremony in Colorado on Christmas Eve.

Reflecting on her marriage to Cruise in a 2016 interview with Red Magazine, Kidman said: "I was so young when I got married," referring to being only 23 at the time, while Cruise was 28.

Looking back, she added: "I look back now and I'm like, 'What?'"

Together, they adopted Isabella and Connor, but following Cruise's 2001 divorce filing due to "irreconcilable differences" the children primarily resided with him.

The split shocked fans globally and Kidman herself was no exception. A decade on, she reminisced to DuJour magazine: "I thought our life together was perfect.

"It took me a very long time to heal. It was a shock to my system."

At the time, a spokesperson for the actress announced: "This divorce was not her decision. Tom made the move. Nicole is in a state of shock."

To this day, the exact reasons behind the actors' separation remain unknown, but both have since been involved in other high-profile romances.

Cruise went on to marry Katie Holmes, with whom he had daughter Suri, only to divorce in 2012.

Kidman, meanwhile, had a fleeting engagement to Lenny Kravitz in 2003 before finding love with country musician Keith Urban, her partner since 2006.

Tragic loss

Kidman faced heartbreak in September 2014 when her father, Dr Anthony Kidman, suffered a fatal heart attack in a Singapore hotel during a visit to her sister Antonia.

Then last year, Kidman endured further sorrow as her mother passed away in September.

Reflecting on life's trials to GQ, Kidman shared: "So life is, whew. It's definitely a journey. And it hits you as you get older," admitting to wakeful nights filled with tears and gasps.

"If you're in it and not numbing yourself to it. And I'm in it. Fully in it," she confided. "Mortality. Connection. Life coming and hitting you.

"And loss of parents and raising children and marriage and all of the things that go into making you a fully sentient human. I'm in all of those places."

Tragically, her mother passed away just before having the chance to see her daughter's latest endeavours, as she shared with Vanity Fair: "I wish she could have seen this part of it.

"She was very excited to see Babygirl, and she was excited to see Perfect Couple too, but she didn't get to see either of those."

Babygirl

At the beginning of the year, Nicole Kidman dazzled audiences with the premiere of her new film, Babygirl, stirring considerable buzz.

The risque thriller follows the life of Romy (portrayed by Nicole Kidman), a high-flying CEO who risks everything for an illicit romance with her youthful intern Samuel, played by Harris Dickinson.

Yet, Kidman admits the intimate scenes became overwhelming, leading to what she described as "burnout".

Discussing the pressures with the Daily Star, she confessed: "There were times when we were shooting where I was like, 'I don't want to orgasm any more. Don't come near me. I hate doing this. I don't care if I am never touched again in my life! I'm over it.'

"It was so present all the time for me that it was almost like a burnout."

Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 is available to watch on Hulu in the US and Prime Video in the UK.
