A small plane crash in a San Diego neighbourhood earlier today resulted in "multiple fatalities" as investigators continue to establish the death toll. The private plane crashed into the neighbourhood at around 3:45 a.m. local time, hitting multiple houses in a residential area used to accommodate military personnel.

Investigators are working to determine how many people were onboard the plane which has a capacity of "eight to ten" according to Assistant fire department chief Dan Eddy. Mr Eddy told reporters on the scene that nobody on the ground was injured as authorities investigate whether the aircraft hit a power line. He said: "When it hit the street, as the jet fuel went down it took out every single car that was on both sides of the street."
