Karni mata temple: PM Modi recently visited Karni Mata Temple located in Bikaner district of Rajasthan. This is such a wonderful and mysterious temple which is famous worldwide as ‘Temple of Rats’. More than 25,000 rats live here and devotees respect him as ‘Kaaba’. Usually, mice whom people drive away from homes, they are worshiped here, they are offered milk and offerings and if a devotee eats false offerings, then he is considered a blessing.
Unique recognition of temple
The most unique thing about this temple is that if you see a white rat here, then it is considered a special blessing of mother Karni. The number of white mice is very less but it is believed that they are members of the family of Karni Mata, who live in the temple with rebirth as a rat.
Who was Karni Mata?
Karni Mata is considered an incarnation of Hindu Goddess Jagdamba. He was born in 1387 in a Charan family. Her childhood name was Rugubai and later she moved towards spiritual life. Impressed by his service and practice, people started calling him ‘Karni Mata’. It is said that she survived for 151 years and then her idol was installed at this place, which is today the center of faith of crores of people.
The daily routine of the temple is also unique
The rats not just roam in the temple, but at 5 o’clock in the morning and at 7 pm, they come out of their bills and participate in the Aarti. Devotees from far and wide come to see these scenes. Milk, sweets and grains are offered to mice, and people sit and eat among them with great love.
Why is this rebirth in mice?
According to a belief, when the son of Karni mother’s sister drowned in the lake, he prayed to Yamraj to bring her back. Yamraj sent him back, but as a rat. Since then, it is believed that whenever a descendant of Karni Mata dies, he comes back to this temple as a rat.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit
The importance of Karni Mata temple can be gauged from the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also reach here for darshan on 22 May. This temple is a big center of faith not only for the common people but also for the royal houses and national leaders.
Karni Mata Temple is not only a symbol of religious faith, but it shows the depth of Indian culture and tradition where every living being – whether it is a human or a rat – can be a character of respect and reverence. This temple is a wonderful confluence of belief, compassion and rebirth, which must be seen once.
