Naypyitaw: According to the National Center of Seismology (NCS), Myanmar had an earthquake on Saturday with a magnitude of 4.0. According to the NCS, the earthquake happened at latitude 23.24 N and longitude 93.92 E at 00:28.

Myanmar was struck by an earthquake of a Richter scale magnitude of 3.9 on May 19, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 40 kilometers, with latitude 21.67 N and longitude 93.91 E, according to NCS.

“EQ of M: 3.9, On: 18/05/2025 23:07:58 IST, Lat: 21.67 N, Long: 93.91 E, Depth: 40 Km, Location: Myanmar,” the NCS said in a post on X.

Earthquakes of magnitudes 7.7 and 6.4 struck the nation earlier in March, causing extensive damage and killing over 3500 people. For tens of thousands of displaced individuals in earthquake-affected regions, the World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that Southeast Asia will confront a number of fast-increasing health concerns, including HIV, TB, and vector- and waterborne illnesses.

Following the tragedy, India’s committed humanitarian effort to Myanmar has been known as Operation Brahma. India has also offered assistance to the Indian diaspora in the Yangon area as part of this endeavor.

Along its extensive coastline, Myanmar is susceptible to the risks of both moderate and large-magnitude earthquakes, including tsunamis.

Sagaing, Mandalay, Bago, and Yangon—which together account for 46% of Myanmar’s population—are at higher earthquake risk due to the Sagaing Fault. Despite being somewhat far from the fault track, Yangon’s high population makes it very vulnerable.
