At the Ekana Cricket Stadium here on Friday, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers by 42 runs in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match.
The losing team’s primary contributions were Phil Salt (62), Virat Kohli (43), and Jitesh Sharma (24).
The primary wicket-pickers for SRH were Pat Cummins (3 for 28) and Eshan Malinga (2 for 37).
Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad amassed a huge score of 231/6 in 20 overs thanks to Ishan Kishan’s undefeated 94. As is often the case, the Sunrisers got off to a strong start with to openers Abhishek Sharma (34) and Travis Head (17). Both players scored 18 runs from Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s first over after falling down against Yash Dayal, and they kept up their strong hitting to reach the 50-run milestone in only 15 deliveries.
The two seemed to be headed for a huge score, but RCB removed both hitters in three delivery. At deep backward square-leg, Abhishek flicked Lungi Ngidi’s full-length ball directly to Phil Salt in the hopes of clearing the boundary. It was Bhuvneshwar’s chance to collect after only two deliveries, and he took Head’s crucial wicket. The Australian starter mistimed his attempt towards mid-off after a back-of-a-length ball around off, and Romario Shepherd gathered a straightforward opportunity.
Ishan Kishan attempted to edge the ball towards the fine leg and almost hit Bhuvneshwar twice in one over, but a diving Jitesh Sharma was unable to make the challenging catch. Kishan and Heinrich Klassen (24) kept hitting boundaries as the Sunrisers amassed 71/2 in the first six overs, the second-highest Power-play total of the season.
The Proteas batsman hit him for a four before blasting one straight down the ground for half a dozen runs, making Suyash Sharma’s arrival immediately after the Power-play unpleasant.
But the last laugh went to the right-arm leg-break bowler.
