One of the five members of the selection committee, Subroto Banerjee, was also seen making his way to the BCCI offices for the high-profile gathering.

Headingley, Edgbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford, and The Oval will host India’s crucial Test series against England from June 20 to August 4. For the first time since 2007, India hopes to win a Test series in England.

Following Rohit Sharma’s instant retirement from the format and Virat Kohli’s subsequent departure from Test cricket, the selection of India’s Test team was originally set to happen sooner but was delayed by two weeks.

At the moment, Shubman Gill is seen to be the most likely candidate to lead India in Test matches. But Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah are all seen as serious candidates for the position. The 25-year-old Gill has won accolades for leading the Gujarat Titans into the IPL 2025 playoffs with initiative.

Prior to their second game against the England Lions in Northampton, Gill and his GT opening partner Sai Sudharsan are anticipated to join the India “A” team. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair, Dhruv Jurel, Sarfaraz Khan, and other potential Test team members are expected to leave for England on May 25 in preparation for the May 30 first match.

On the morning of May 26, players like Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ishan Kishan, Harshit Rana, and Harsh Dubey are probably going to take a plane from New Delhi to England. This follows their participation in Sunday night’s IPL 2025 encounter between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, which is the season’s last game for both teams, who have already been eliminated.
