There were already reports of more than 19 billion passwords leaking on the dark web, while now a new data leak has emerged, with more than 18 crore 41 lakh passwords and login details publicly found on the Internet without any security.

Big social media platforms also in the grip of leak

This time the surprising thing is that the leaked data includes information of veteran platforms like Apple, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Roblox. These information were found in plain text form without any encryption, which pose a serious threat to the safety of users.

According to the cyber security expert JereMiah Fowler, the database was lying on a web hosting server without any protection, with 84,162,718 unique logins and passwords. It is believed that this data may have been collected by an infostealer malware.

Fowler said, “It was not only social media, but also logins associated with banking, health and government portals, which can put users in serious threats.” He informed the concerned hosting company, after which public access has been discontinued, but the database is still present online.

On 22 May, Fowler also reported that the Lumma Stealer Tool, which stealing the password, has been stopped in a global operation run under the leadership of Microsoft’s Digital Crime Unit.

Now what to do users?

If you use the same password in many accounts, immediately make a separate, strong and unique password for every platform. I am personally waiting for this from Apple, Meta, Roblox and Snapchat.
