In today’s era, internet has become an important part of everyone’s life. Be it work or studies, entertainment or banking – everything rests on the Internet. People use different mobile data or broadband plans to meet this need.
But now a new name has been added to the Internet world – satellite internet. You may have heard its name, but do you know what it is and how is it different from other internet services?
Come, let us understand in easy language what satellite is the internet, how it works and how long can India come.
What is satellite internet?
As is clear by the name itself, the satellite transports the internet signal directly to the user from the satellite present in the internet space. It needs neither a fiber cable nor a mobile tower.
The satellite requires a satellite dish and a special router for the Internet, which holds the signal and leads to your device.
How is satellite internet different from broadband and mobile internet?
Facility broadband mobile internet satellite internet
A satellite via mobile tower through connectivity cable
Need fiber or wire network coverage only dishes and routers
Coverage cities anywhere according to better area, everywhere
Speed rapidly limited stable but expensive
Where does satellite internet work?
Where there are no towers or the network is weak (eg remote villages or mountainous areas)
When the rest of the networks are closed in the case of disaster
In army, research or travel where there is no other option of internet
When will satellite internet come in India?
Currently satellite internet has not started in India. But companies like Allen Musk’s company Starlink, Onweeb and Amazon’s Project Kuiper are preparing to launch it in India soon.
Starlink has started this service in Bangladesh, where its monthly expenditure is around ₹ 4,200 and a one -time dish kit is priced at around ₹ 33,000.
Will this service be economical in India?
Probably not initially. Because:
The price of satellite dish and router can range from ₹ 40,000 to ₹ 1 lakh.
The monthly internet plan can cost from ₹ 5,000 to ₹ 15,000.
These prices are much higher than common broadband and mobile data.
For whom is satellite internet beneficial?
People who live in rural or remote areas
Where there is no network or broadband facility
Army, scientific research, or people working in forests
Although its expenses can be overshadowed on the common man’s pocket, it can revolutionize the Internet world for needy areas.
