India's Diplomatic Push Against Terrorism
Moscow/Tokyo/Manama: On Saturday, Indian delegations visiting Russia and Japan wrapped up their discussions with diplomatic leaders, focusing on the global fight against terrorism. A third delegation has also arrived in Bahrain to emphasize India's stance on cross-border radicalism.
These three delegations, which aim to enhance cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts, were organized in the wake of the tragic Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 that resulted in 26 fatalities. This initiative is part of India's broader outreach, with seven multi-party delegations engaging with 33 capitals worldwide.
During their meetings with political leaders, media representatives, and senior officials, the delegations raised awareness about Pakistan's role in terrorism and shared insights regarding Operation Sindoor.
The Moscow delegation, led by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, held a press conference at the conclusion of their visit, referring to Russia as a “close and reliable” ally.
Kanimozhi stated, “We seek to ensure that Russia understands our plight regarding state-sponsored terrorism from Pakistan.” She emphasized that India would not engage in peace talks while under attack.
Earlier, Russia reaffirmed its commitment to a united front with India against terrorism.
In a meeting with Andrey Denisov, First Deputy Chair of the Committee on International Affairs in Russia, Kanimozhi described their discussions as “constructive,” focusing on mutual concerns regarding terrorism.
The Parliamentary delegation to Japan concluded its three-day visit, having engaged with Japan's political leaders and expressed gratitude for Tokyo's strong support in India's anti-terrorism efforts.
JD(U) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, who led the Japanese delegation, reiterated India's zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and highlighted Pakistan's ongoing support for cross-border terror.
The delegation also paid tribute to freedom fighter Rash Behari Bose at the Tama Cemetery, coinciding with his birth anniversary.
Jha remarked, “India follows Gandhi's path of peace, but we will respond decisively when peace is threatened.”
Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, part of the Japanese delegation, likened terrorism to a “rabid dog” with Pakistan as its “vile handler,” urging global unity against it.
The delegation also engaged with the Indian community at the Embassy, encouraging them to spread awareness about terrorism within their networks.
In Bahrain, the all-party Indian delegation, led by senior BJP leader Baijayant Jay Panda, aims to emphasize India's firm stance against cross-border terrorism.
Meanwhile, in Dubai, India's Ambassador to the UAE, Sunjay Sudhir, praised the all-party delegation's visit, noting the positive reception of India's narrative on terrorism.
Sudhir highlighted a notable shift in the response of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations following the Pahalgam attack compared to their reactions after the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
He noted that the UAE was among the first to condemn the Pahalgam attack as an act of terror and called for the eradication of terrorism in all its forms.
Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated following the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
In response to this attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. Following this, Pakistan attempted to strike Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10.
India retaliated strongly, leading to a ceasefire agreement on May 10.
