Ajit Doval's Key Role in Moscow Security Meeting

Moscow: Ajit Doval, India's National Security Advisor, is set to arrive in Moscow next week for a significant security conference hosted by the Russian Security Council.

Doval has been invited to participate in the 13th international meeting of high-level representatives addressing security matters, scheduled for May 27-29, under the leadership of Sergei Shoigu, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council.

According to a statement from the Russian Security Council, invitations have been extended to over 150 nations from the Global South and East, as well as members of the CIS, CSTO, EAEU, and SCO, along with leaders from more than 20 international organizations.

Pakistan, which is also part of the SCO, will have its NSA, Lt Gen Asim Malik, attending the meeting in Moscow.

Speculation arises that following Operation Sindoor, the Indian and Pakistani NSAs may meet face-to-face in Moscow, with potential facilitation from the Russian side, as noted by Sergei Strokan, a South Asia columnist for a prominent business daily.

Strokan recalled that during a meeting with a multi-party parliamentary delegation led by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko emphasized the need for joint efforts against terrorism, utilizing platforms like the UN, BRICS, and SCO for enhanced cooperation.

Tensions between India and Pakistan heightened after the Pahalgam attack on April 22, which resulted in 26 fatalities. In response, India executed precision strikes targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7 as part of Operation Sindoor.

This was followed by Pakistan's attempts to strike Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10, to which India responded decisively.

The hostilities on the ground concluded with an agreement to cease military actions after discussions between the military operations directors of both nations on May 10.
