A violent altercation occurred in Aligarh's Atrauli area on May 24 when a group intercepted a vehicle transporting meat, alleging it contained beef. Forensic analysis later confirmed the meat was not beef. Four individuals transporting the it sustained injuries and were hospitalized.
Police have registered cases against 38 people, arresting four so far. The incident began when the transporters, who operate meat shops, were returning from a licensed processing facility. A viral video shows the injured victims surrounded by an aggressive crowd.
Authorities noted this was the second confrontation involving the same groups in 15 days, with a previous encounter having been resolved after verifying transport documents. The Rural SP stated the police vehicle initially passing the scene was en route to another assignment, returning 20 minutes later to intervene.
The investigation continues as questions remain about the delayed police response and the attackers' motives. The meat transport business in the area has reportedly been disrupted following the incident.
