After bringing their product portfolio for display at the Auto Expo 2025, Vinfast has revealed its initial product lineup, plant plans, and its strategy to make a dent in one of the world's fastest-growing EV markets.
Kicking things off for the brand are its core compact-mid size models, the VF7 and VF6. The brand will also launch the quirky VF3 2-door city car, but not in 2025.
Here's what each of them brings to the table, and what you need to know about VinFast's entry in the Indian market:
VinFast VF7: Flagship SUV With Futuristic Flair
Headlining VinFast's India launch is the VF7, a mid-size electric SUV that's high on both style and substance. Designed in collaboration with Italian design house Torino Design, the VF7 wears a bold, aerodynamic profile with a wide LED light bar, muscular haunches, and a clean, coupe-like roofline.
Globally, the VF7 is offered in two trims:
- Eco: Single motor, front-wheel drive, producing around 174 PS and 250 Nm
- Plus: Dual-motor, all-wheel drive setup with 349 PS and 500 Nm
Battery options include a 75.3 kWh pack with a targeted WLTP range of up to 450 km for the Eco trim. Inside, the VF7 is expected to feature a high-resolution infotainment display, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, leatherette upholstery, and ADAS tech, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. If priced right, the VF7 could take on the likes of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the BYD Sealion 7 and the BMW iX1 LWB.
We could see the VF7 on the Indian roads sometime around September 2025.
VinFast VF6: The Family EV
Sitting below the VF7 is the VF6, a compact electric SUV aimed squarely at India's volume-driven segment. Measuring around 4.3 metres in length, it slots in close to the Hyundai Creta EV, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara and the Mahindra BE6.
The VF6 also comes in two variants globally:
- Eco: 174 PS, 250 Nm, with a 59.6 kWh battery
- Plus: Bumps the output to 201 PS, with torque holding steady at 250 Nm
The WLTP-claimed range stands at around 399 km for the Eco version and 381 km for the Plus. Standard kit includes a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, connected car tech, and Level 2 ADAS features. The cabin layout is minimalist and tech-focused, with premium materials and practical storage.
This is the model most likely to find favour in urban India, owing to its combination of compact size with a large enough battery pack to deliver a good real-world range.
This should debut shortly after the VF7 in September 2025, just ahead of the Indian festivities season.
VinFast VF3: Pint-Sized Powerhouse
Then there's the VF3, and it's arguably the most interesting of the lot. Think of it as a lifestyle-oriented micro SUV designed for the Gen-Z crowd and city slickers who want something bold, boxy, and thoroughly different.
Measuring just over 3 metres long, the VF3 is roughly the length of a Maruti Alto but styled like a pocket-sized SUV. It features flared wheel arches, rugged bumpers, and enough funk to star in its own K-pop video. The VF3 gets a single electric motor, rear-wheel drive, and a small battery that's good for a range of around 200 km.
While technical specifications are still under wraps, the VF3's calling card will be affordability and personality, making it ideal for India's urban jungles and Tier 2/3 cities looking for a budget-friendly EV that doesn't blend in. It will roughly lock horns with its only rival, the MG Comet.
Expect this one to groove on Indian roads sometime around early 2026.
VinFast's India Strategy: Ambitious, Yet Interesting
Bookings for the VF7 and VF6 will open in June, with the VF3 expected to follow soon after.
To support sales and service, VinFast will establish a widespread dealership network, not just in metro cities, but also in Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns, where EV adoption is accelerating.
They will begin operations with an initial production capacity of 50,000 vehicles per year from their upcoming manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. This facility is part of a USD 2 billion investment, with USD 500 million allocated for the first phase. In the long term, the factory could ramp up production to 150,000 vehicles annually, with VinFast also eyeing export opportunities from India.
Pricing and warranty details, including whether they will offer their popular global battery subscription model (similar to what MG offers with their BaaS), will be revealed at the time of launch. Given the rising competition and price sensitivity in the EV space, expect competitive pricing and industry-standard warranties to woo early adopters.
ZigSays…
With three models, a production plan, and a strategy that goes beyond the big cities, VinFast looks serious about the Indian market. The brand itself is backed by its parent, Vingroup which has its presence in sectors ranging from automobiles to education and green energy to infotech. The VF7 brings the wow factor, the VF6 offers family-friendly practicality, and the VF3 could charm the budget segment with its unique character.
If VinFast gets the pricing, localisation, and service experience right, it could well become the new disruptor in India's EV game.
