Impact of Heavy Pre-Monsoon Rains in Karnataka

The office of Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reported on Saturday that the state has witnessed a tragic loss of 71 lives due to rain-related incidents since April.


According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), the pre-monsoon rainfall recorded in 2025 has been the highest in the last 125 years for this period leading up to the monsoon and in May.


Typically, Karnataka experiences an average rainfall of 74 millimeters in May; however, this year, the state received an astonishing 219 millimeters, marking an increase of 197 percent over the norm. Similarly, from March 1 to May 31, 2025, the state recorded 286 millimeters of rainfall, significantly higher than the usual 115 millimeters.
