Spaghetti bolognese will have 'extra flavour' when adding 1 'surprising' ingredient

Spaghetti bolognese is a really simple to make but can be transformed by adding just one surprising ingredient. Aside from chopping up and cooking , the dish requires little time or skill and is perfect for a straightforward weekday meal.

While most home chefs know the basic include minced beef, onions, chopped tomatoes and seasonings, one person took to social media platform Reddit to ask if anyone uses any "secret ingredients". A number of people have replied to the question offering a range of advice and tips. However, one ingredient, which was deemed "surprising" by one user, seemed to be more popular than others when it comes to giving the dish extra flavour.

JulieWulie80 asked on Reddit: "Secret ingredient in a spaghetti bolognese?" The question has attracted around 2,300 comments so far, with a number of home chefs agreeing on one secret ingredient.

ThomasEichorst replied: "Marmite." Weetobix added: "Also marmite."

Marmite is a popular ingredient to use in a range of dishes as it helps to add a depth of flavour. The yeast extract is typically added towards the end of cooking.

Chefs are recommended to use a teaspoon of marmite for the best results. It works well alongside other ingredients such as tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce.

Lisa Faulkner, a television chef, previously said in an interview with the : "Marmite is also a fantastic little secret ingredient I use in everything from stews to bolognese sauce, because it gives dishes that little extra depth of flavour."
