Nashik: A leopard struck and killed a child in Dindori's Jadhav settlement on Saturday night, creating an uproar, Less than a month after the passing of a young woman in Vanarwadi. Furious residents shut down the road for four hours seeking permanent management of leopards, which was rescinded after police stepped in. Following this, the stress lessened.

Rudraksh Amol Jadhav (5) from Jadhav settlement on Nilwandi road was outside his home with his grandfather Dattatray Jadhav at around 9 pm on Saturday. The leopard, hiding in the shadows, pounced on Rudraksh and pulled him into the field. The moment the grandfather yelled, the neighbours hurried to the scene. During the search of the area, they discovered Rudraksh's body.

Panic had already begun to unfold in the region as the leopard's activity had heightened. Initially, the passing of a young woman and now a child in Vanarwadi prompted citizens to voice their outrage by obstructing the Nashik-Saputara road at night, causing traffic to halt completely.

Personnel and staff from the Dindori police station arrived at the location. Once they had persuaded them, the residents ended their demonstration. The villagers insisted on the immediate installation of a cage in the area, the permanent control of the leopards, and financial aid for the family of the deceased child.

Today, the authorities convened with the representatives of the people. Following the assault in Vanarwadi, the forest department's search operation was unsuccessful, and traps were set up in several locations throughout the taluka. It was questioned how the leopards can be trapped in the cages when the forest department does not place food in many of them.

Regional officer Umesh Vavare guaranteed that a search operation will take place in the region and a recommendation of several measures will be forwarded to the higher office. The villagers have requested that the electricity provision be sustained during nighttime across various locations in the villages and settlements of the taluka
