The Dutch coalition has collapsed following a deadlock over far-right leader Geert Wilders’ Freedom Party proposal to tighten migration policies.
Wilders announced on X that his party “is leaving the coalition” after other parties declined to approve his additional demands.
Dutch Coalition Collapses
Dutch far-right leader Geert Wilders announced on Tuesday that his PVV party is exiting the governing coalition, effectively bringing down the right-wing government.
Wilders said the decision was prompted by the coalition partners’ refusal to back his proposed plans to halt asylum migration, which he had pushed for immediate approval last week.
Posting on X, he wrote, “No signature under our asylum plans. The PVV leaves the coalition.”
