Runway 10/28 at Delhi Airport will be closed for upgradation from June 15 to September 15. During this period, about 114 flights will be cancelled daily and the timing of 43 flights will be changed.

If you are also planning to travel from Delhi Airport in the coming few months, then you may have to face some trouble. Actually, an important runway 10/28 of Delhi Airport is being temporarily closed for upgradation from 15 June to 15 September 2025. While some flights will be affected by this decision, passengers will get a big benefit from it in the coming time, especially during the fog season.
What is the upgrade happening?
Videh Jaipuriar, CEO, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), informed that two major technical improvements are being made on Runway 10/28:
1. The Instrument Landing System (ILS) is being upgraded so that the landing and take-off process can be more accurate and safe. 2. The CAT-3B system is now being installed on the 10th section of the runway as well. This system helps in safe landing of aircraft in low visibility, especially during fog. Till now this facility was available only in one direction.
What will be the impact on flights?
This runway closure will affect the total flights of Delhi airport by about 7%. Due to the upgradation work, the schedules of 43 incoming and 43 outgoing flights have been changed. At the same time, 114 incoming and outgoing flights will be cancelled daily. However, he also clarified that this impact is equal to the 35% schedule variation that happens on normal days and passengers have been informed about this in advance.
You will get benefit in the long runDIAL's big idea behind the runway upgrade is to prepare for the changing weather in the coming years, especially the dense winter fog. According to the CEO, the help of expert agencies has been taken for weather forecasting so that the airport can improve itself according to future needs. Even though passengers may face some inconvenience for the next three months, the technical advancement of runway 10/28 will reduce the problems of flight cancellations and delays to a great extent during the fog season.
